This program was designed to promote having good science and math teachers in North Dakota high schools. Preparing college students to become teachers via their undergraduate degree and helping them get there with financial help is the goal of the scholarship program.
The Noyce STEM Scholars program covers almost all the tuition and fees to North Dakota State University for students in dual majors leading to teacher certification. You must commit to teach two years in a school district that needs math and science teachers, for each year that you received a Noyce Scholarship. You must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. You can get a need-based North Dakota State Student Incentive Grant (SSIG) of up to $1,500 per year by filling out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The North Dakota SSIG hands out about 8,500 grants to North Dakota residents who are seeking a first time undergraduate degree at any of North Dakota’s public, private, or tribal colleges. You must enroll full-time in college in North Dakota, and you must be a Citizen or Permanent Resident of the USA in addition to being a North Dakota resident. America Indian students in North Dakota may be eligible to receive up to $2,000 per academic year through the North Dakota Indian Scholarship Program. Each year around 175 American Indian students in North Dakota are awarded this scholarship which is based on merit and educational financial need. Eligibility requirements for this scholarship are: 1) You have to be a member of a federally recognized American Indian tribe and a resident of North Dakota; 2) You need to have been admitted to a college or university in North Dakota; 3) You need to be enrolled full-time; 4) You must have a GPA of 2.0 or above.
