School Grants in Montana

Montana is a great state to live if you are a student. Going to college can be fun and rewarding for Montana students. And finding the school grants in Montana or other sources of financial aid for college can help.
The idea behind funding for the Governor’s Best and Brightest Scholarship for Montana students is to keep their hopes and dreams alive by giving them a better future through improved access to college via need-based and merit-based grants. The state of Montana wants Montana students to stay in Montana upon graduation thereby contributing to the prosperity of the state through the students’ work and professional careers after college.

There are three different categories of the Governor’s Best and Brightest Scholarship: 1) high school merit scholarships which offer $8,000 total over a 4-year degree program (i.e., $1,000 per semester); 2) merit-at-large scholarships which also offers $8,000 total over a 4-year degree program (i.e., $1,000 per semester); and 3) need-based scholarships which offers $1,000 per year for up to 2 year. For all three types of the Governor’s Best and Brightest Scholarship, the following are needed in order to be eligible: 1) you must be a resident of Montana; 2) you need to be accepted at or enrolled at a Montana college or university; 3) fill out the FAFSA (for scholarships based on need); 4) you need to have a high school GPA of 3.0 or more, or a score of 20 or above on the ACT, or 1440 or higher on the SAT, and be enrolled full-time in college (for scholarships based on merit); 5) you must not have already gotten a Montana University System Honor Scholarship; 6) register for selective service if you are a male; 7) you need to be aspiring to get either a first certificate, associate, or BA degree.

The Montana Senate Youth Program Scholarship is funded by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation. There are 104 awards given of up to $5,000 per award in scholarship money, for the total amount awarded of $520,000 per year. The scholarship may be used at any 2-year or 4-year college in Montana.
