How long will a scholarship/grant last for?

The length of one scholarship is not the same as another. They are all very different. Some grants and scholarships may cover your full course of studies while others may only be good for one or two years. The literature you receive on grants and scholarships may not provide this information to you in which case you will have to directly contact the financial aid provider to learn more.

What will the scholarship/grant pay for?

This tends to vary from scholarship to scholarship. A full scholarship will cover your tuition, as well as housing and course materials while partial grants and scholarships will only cover tuition. If you are approved for a partial scholarship and not a full one you can always apply for a grant to help fill in the gaps. It is imperative that you find out what a scholarship you are applying for will cover so you can be prepared to apply for other financial or grants and scholarships if need be.

Where will the money for the financial aid go?

In most instances the money for financial aid will be sent directly to the college or university you will be attending and will not find its way into your hands. The check or checks will be payable to the educational institution you are attending because you were given financial aid to pay for your tuition and all of your school related expenses. There are very few exceptions to this particular scholarship rule.

What requirements are necessary to keep the scholarship?

Scholarships are often granted on a conditional basis. Most of the time they have to do with academic achievement. What this means for you as a student is that you must maintain a particular grade point average (GPA) to be eligible for the scholarship and to maintain it. For some  scholarships the above average GPA is across the board for all school subjects while for other scholarships it relates to the GPA of specific subjects. School grants are gemerally determined as need based financial aid.

Can you have more than one scholarship at a time?

In most cases you cannot use more than one scholarship at once, even if you are approved for a selection of them. This is dependent on the conditions and terms of each scholarship. On the other hand, holding more than one grant at a time is within your rights to do. You may be required however to let all sources of financial assistance know that you are getting help elsewhere for your schooling.
