Home School Grants

If you decide to home school your children then there are home school grants available to ease the financial burden of doing so. Grants for the purposes of home schooling can be used to pay for everything from books and other scholastic materials, school supplies, as well as a computer and tutoring if it is required. Be aware that in many cases grants for students who are home schooled are given to them indirectly. What this means is that the grants do not come in the form of cash per se but instead come in the form of books, equipment, supplies and other types of learning materials. There are instances where cash is given directly to those being home schooled but this tends to be the exception as opposed to the rule.

You might think the first place to look is to the government but the United States government does not have that much to offer in terms of grants for home schooling students. As well grants for home schooling are still very new.

While federal government home schooling grants are not found in the nation per se, there are both grants ands scholarships that are made available to home schooled graduates who wish to attend college or university. At the present time however there are no federal grants for a family that receives their education at home.

The best place to conduct a search is over the internet. Look to online resources when it comes to home school grants. Before you begin your search it helps to know that these types of grants do not tend to be well publicized. While they are out there they are not easy to locate. Be prepared to roll up your sleeves and to get to work in this regard!

Corporate Grants

There is more than one type of home school grant available to apply for. Corporate grants are one option. There are plenty of large corporations around that offer corporate grants. While many of these specialize in providing grants to traditional schools and charter schools there are also home school grants that can be applied for. As you search make sure you specifically focus in on grants for home schooling. There are some corporations such as IBM for example that offer grants for education initiatives but not for initiatives as they relate to home schooling youngsters or teenagers.

Home School Groups

Home school groups will sometimes offer grants to students. For example, in the state of Alaska every student who is home schooled has the opportunity to apply for a grant to cover the cost of textbooks. If you live in Alaska then it is strongly recommended that you join a home school support group. From there information about grants should be much more easily accessible.

Churches and Church Schools

Local churches and ministries sometimes offer home school grants. Area churches are involved with home based schooling. In some cases small church schools are formed to help students who learn at home. Often these church schools will help offset the cost of home schooling and/or will loan out educational materials to students.

Another place to look is the Home School Foundation. This foundation offers grants and scholarships to home schooling families who have particular needs. Visit them to learn more.
