Education Grants in Utah

There are some varied and helpful grants available in the state of Utah for students wanting to pursue a degree. It is a wise idea to apply for the Federal Pell Grant in Utah by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. At the same time you are considered for the Federal Pell Grant, you may be considered for other grants.

The Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) and the National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (SMART) Grants were set up to refocus on math and science education. The funding allows for $4.5 billion over five years from the U.S. Dept. of Education for low-income college students who meet the Federal Pell Grant program guidelines .

The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) is funded federally and by the specific campus in Utah and/or the state of Utah that the student plans to attend. Fill out the FAFSA to be considered for this grant .

Again, another option for school grants in Utah is you may be eligible for by filling out the FAFSA is the Leveraging Educational Assistance Partnership (LEAP) grant. This is a grant that is funded federally and funds may be matched by your campus. The grant is up to $2,500 annually (UHEAA, 2010).
Additionally, the Utah Centennial Opportunity Program for Education (UCOPE) Grant may be awarded to students wanting to attend a college or university in Utah. You may apply for this grant by filling out the FAFSA form.

The Terrel H. Bell Teaching Incentive Loan Program (TILP) was previously called the Utah Career Teaching Scholarship. To be eligible  you must enroll in a college major in a teacher certification subject area at a Utah college or university. Your loan does not have to be repaid if you teach for a specific number of years after you graduate .

The Western Undergraduate Exchange is a program within the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) that lets residents of Utah enroll at certain two and four year colleges outside of Utah at a reduced tuition cost. The participating states are: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming .

The New Century Scholarship Program available in Utah lets students speed up their education by attempting to get an A.A. degree in high school. If you maintain a B average, then you can get a scholarship for a maximum of three-fourths of your tuition that may be utilized at a four-year college or university in Utah or at Brigham Young University or Westminster College. With the available school grants and scholarships in Utah, any student’s future looks bright

Grants in Utah for 2012

A higher education can take you places that you want to go. It can open doors for you that you might only dream of if you did not pursue a postsecondary degree. If you live in the state of Utah and want to go to college or university but are not sure how you are going to afford it then finding appropriate grants can make it possible for you to do what you want to do. Here we look at some options for you to think about in terms of grants for 2012:

-Sterling Scholar Awards of Utah Grant: This Utah grant is available for seniors graduating from high school. Students must be nominated by their principal to be eligible for this grant. The categories available for this grant program include English, social sciences, mathematics, computer technology, speech and drama, music, dance, business/marketing, foreign language, family and consumer sciences and visual arts.  Students nominated are judged on the achievements in one or more categories and are then awarded grants based upon the results. -Utah Centennial Opportunity Program for Education Grant (UCOPE): The UCOPE grant is for residents of the state who are attending or have enrolled in colleges in the state. The grant program is funded through the State of Utah and is geared at students who have the greatest financial need.  Recipients of this grant must be enrolled in a college, university or educational institution in Utah on a full-time basis and their course of study must be four years in duration. To apply for the UCOPE grant students must first fill out and submit a FAFSA. The earlier you get your FAFSA form ready the better.

Professional Development Grant

The Professional Development Grant is a competitive grant program that is open to linguistic graduate students to apply for if they participate in professional conferences and or conventions that are of a scholarly nature. This grant money goes towards decreasing the costs that are associated with presenting academic papers at these academic events. This grant that is administered at the state level. However applicants are also required to apply to the post secondary institution that they attend in order to apply for funds to match that of the Professional Development Grant. Those who apply for this grant must submit their curriculum vitae, a letter of reference, a Department of Linguistic application form and a travel budget.
