OCOG program students must have an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of $2,190 or less with a maximum household income of $75,000. In order to apply for the Ohio College Opportunity Grant, students must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before the application deadline of October 1st of each year.
The amount of Ohio College Opportunity Grant funds available annually for full-time undergraduate students for the 2009-2010 academic year depends on the academic institution attended. Currently, private, non profit academic institutions in Ohio offer the greatest OCOG award amount of $2,256 per academic year. Other private, non profit academic institutions in Ohio offer OCOG award amounts as follows: Mercy College: $1,848; Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences: $1,832; Franklin University: $1,800; Huron School of Nursing: $1,376; Trinity School of Nursing:$864; Rosedale Bible College: $816; and God’s Bible College:$240. The OCOG annual award amounts for public Ohio academic institutions are: All Public Main Campuses:$1008; and Shawnee State University: $480. The OCOG annual award amounts for Pennsylvania institutions are: $800/$400 for veterans and $600/$300 for non-veterans (Ohio Board of Regents, 2010).
The Nurse Education Assistance Loan Program (NEALP) gives financial help and nursing school grants in the amount of $1,500 per year to Ohio students signed up for at least part-time study in select Ohio nurse education programs. The NEALP program is for future nurses or future instructors, and the application period is after January 1st or before July 15th of each year. The source of the funding comes from the educational surcharge on the licensure renewal fee paid by all LPN’s ad RN’s. And the loan may be forgiven completely if the recipient serves as a full-time nurse in Ohio for five years.
The Ohio Safety Officers College Memorial Fund offers tuition help to the children and spouse of peace officers, fire fighters, other safety officers, and those in the armed services of the U.S. who are killed on the job, anywhere in the U.S.A. or when in the Armed Services under Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, or a combat zone designated by the U.S. President. To get help from the Ohio Safety Officers College Memorial Fund, you must be an Ohio resident and not eligible for the Ohio War Orphan Scholarship. The Ohio Safety Officers College Memorial Fund offers benefits which cover instructional and general fee charges for students enrolling full-time or part-time at the participating Ohio public and private colleges and universities. The Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program is a federally-funded program which offers up to $1,500 each year for up to four year for Bachelor’s students in Ohio. Eligible students show outstanding academic achievement in high school in Ohio. You are chosen for this scholarship on the basis of GPA, class rank, scores on your SAT or ACT or GED tests, and your other curricular or extra-curricular activities. The recipients are chosen from mid-March through the end of April of each year. Grants in Ohio for 2012
In the state of Ohio there are grant programs that you can apply for in order to help you to afford a college education. While there are not a lot of new grant opportunities to be found in the state of Ohio some minor changes have been made to the current grant program for the Ohio College Opportunity Grant. Ohio College Opportunity Grant (OCOG): This grant program is open to residents of the state of Ohio only. The OCOG is funded by the state of Ohio. To be eligible to receive grant money an individual must be enrolled in a program that will earn them an Associate’s degree or their first Bachelor’s degree from an accredited facility.
The student who applies must meet the Expected Family Contribution standards that have been determined by the Ohio Board of Regents. Students who wish to apply for the OCOG must fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid form. There is no separate form to fill out. To apply you must be a resident of the state of Ohio and you must also be a United States citizen. The funds from this grant can be used for tuition and related fees.
Ohio Student Choice Grants
The Ohio Student Choice Grant is one of the primary grants in the state. To qualify for one of these grants students must be residents of Ohio and must either be attending or planning to attend private colleges or universities in the state. Public post-secondary institutions do not qualify for this grant program. This grant is only open to full-time students who are studying at the undergraduate level. Financial need is not a consideration for this grant program, nor is academic merit.
Ohio Instructional Grant
If you hail from a low income to middle income family and are a resident of the state of Ohio then you may be eligible to apply for the Ohio Instructional Grant. Applicants must be attending an approved college or university in Ohio. This grant is also open to Ohio residents who wish to attend an approved school in the state of Pennsylvania. Financial need must be demonstrated to receive this grant money. Applicants must be attending school on a full-time basis to qualify. This grant can be used during any year of the student’s undergraduate studies.
Ohio Board of Regents Grant
The Ohio Board of Regents Grant is open to Ohio residents who are attending either a higher education institution in an eligible Ohio or Pennsylvania college or university. Applicants must be able to demonstrate a financial need for the funds and also must be in good academic standing. The Ohio Board of Regents Grant is based upon family income as well as how many dependents are in the family.
Herb Society Research Grant
The Herb Society Research Grant is awarded to students who have a proposed program relating to herbal plants. It can be artistic, academic or scientific in nature (or a combination thereof).
