Grants in Nevada for 2012
For residents living in the state of Nevada there are grants available to help you to afford to attend a college or university of your choice. The grants available for students to apply for in 2012 are all geared at those students who have the greatest financial need for money to help them to pursue a higher education. Let us look at them now:
Nevada State Access Grant: This grant program is open to Nevada residents who wish to attend school in their home state. It is available at both the undergraduate as well as the graduate level. The maximum amount that an undergraduate student qualifies for is $2500 and for a graduate student, $3000. Factors that are taken into consideration when it comes to the eligibility of a student include how much of a financial need they have, the cost of the tuition and related educational expenses and how much money the government has on any given year to give out to students.
Nevada Grant-In-Aid: This grant is for students who wish to remain in Nevada to obtain their postsecondary education. While this grant is available to those who are in the greatest need for it financially those who have higher academic qualifications are provided with grant money first. Those who apply early are also more likely to be approved. This grant is for undergraduate students who are working towards their first degree.
Out-of-State Grant-In-Aid Grant: This grant is identical to the Nevada Grant-In-Aid described above with one exception- it is meant for Nevada residents who choose to leave the province to get their education in another state. It is a need-based grant and early submission of applications is strongly recommended.
Nevada Department of Education Grant
The Nevada Department of Education Grant is open for all high school seniors to apply for. Seniors must have a minimum 3.50GPA to apply. They also must have at least 25 ACT or 1100 SAT. The eligible ACT scores are automatically submitted to the Department of Education (DOE).
Nevada Student Incentive Grant
The Nevada Student Incentive Grant is not a new grant by any means but it is a very popular grant that has seen its share of improvements over the years. This grant program is open to residents of the state of Nevada to use for study at an accredited college or university. Students must be able to show that they have a demonstrated need for financial assistance when it comes to applying for this grant. The grant funds can be used when the student is in his or her freshman year, sophomore year, junior year or senior year of college. Any field of study qualifies for the Nevada Student Incentive Grant.
Work Study Program
The Work Study Program in the state of Nevada is not a grant program per se but is similar to it which is why it can be included in the list. This program is reasonably new and has been put to very good use by students so far.
What the Work Study Program does is it provides jobs for both undergraduate as well as graduate students who need the money to help them pay for their schooling. The jobs can benefit the students in doing their part to earn money to pay for their educational costs. The program encourages students to get involved in community service work and to choose work that is connected to their courses of study.
