The James B. Pearson Fellowship is awarded to graduate students at Kansas State University or another Kansas college or university with approved study abroad programs. The average fellowship award is $2,456, and more funding may be available depending on how long the student plans to study abroad. To be eligible for this fellowship you must: 1) be a resident of Kansas for at least 5 years; 2) plan to attend and be accepted to a graduate program at a Kansas college or university; and 3) be enrolled in one of these programs of study: sociology, psychology, political science, philosophy, law, international relations, history, geography, economics, anthropology, or another field of study related to foreign affairs. The deadline to apply for the award is April 1st, and you may apply through the associate dean at your graduate school in Kansas (Kansas State University, 2010).
Pittsburgh State University in Kansas offers the National Merit Scholarship with an award amount from $1,000 per year up to $2,000 per year if you have financial need. Nonresident students can get a full out-of-state tuition waiver through this program. Applicants must be enrolled or planning to enroll full-time in a college or university in the state of Kansas in order to be eligible to receive money from this grant program. The amount of money awarded varies from student to student as based upon need. The amounts range from $100 to $3000.
The State Scholars Grant Program: This grant program is given out to students who have been identified as State Scholars when they are in their senior year of high school. It is not a need-based grant but a merit-based grant. To qualify for this grant opportunity students are required to take the ACT before December in their senior year. They are also required to complete the Kansas State Scholar curriculum. Students must have a score of 21 on their ACT or a SAT score of 990 to be eligible for this grant.
Environmental Education Grants
Students need to learn all there is to know about nature and the environment that surrounds them. In the state of Kansas there are grants to enhance environmental education that are geared at students who plan to study environmental sciences at postsecondary institutions.
