Grants in Indiana for 2012

Going to college involves hard work but it also involves money as well. It is the State Student Assistance Commission of Indiana (SSACI) that provides financial assistance to students in the state of Indiana. For those wanting to take their education further and to prepare for a career grants can provide some much needed financial relief. Here we look at what the state has to offers its students this year:

The Frank O’Bannon Grant: Once known as the Indiana Higher Education Grant, this grant comes from the Indiana General Assembly and  makes available two different kinds of awards. There is the Higher Education Award and the Freedom of Choice Award. Both of these grant awards are given to students in Indiana to help with tuition and other school related costs at approved schools throughout the state. The dollar amounts for this grant vary from one school year to the next depending on how much money is available. It is also dependent upon how many students apply for the grant. Students wishing to apply for this grant must fill out the FAFSA form first to start the process.

(Please note that those individuals who qualify for the Frank O’Bannon Grant are also eligible to apply for a work study program that is funded by the state. This program must be applied for before May 1, 2012).

Indiana Nursing Scholarship Grant Fund Program: This grant program is a combination scholarship/grant in one and is suitable for both full-time as well as part-time nursing students. It has been around since 1990 but changes are made to this grant program frequently. Students who apply for this program must be able to demonstrate a need for financial assistance.  Those who are approved for this grant are expected to provide nursing services in the state for a period of at least two years following their graduation.

This grant will pay for all of the tuition costs for eligible members.  This grant will cover the cost of tuition but not books or room and board. The money that is available is based on the amount that is available for the program for that given year.

This grant is opened to full time students who will be taking 30 credit hours per school year or what works out to be 15 hours per semester. If you are a part time student taking at least three credit hours per semester than you are also eligible to apply for the NGSG.
