Alabama Student Grant Program: If you are a resident of Alabama you can apply for this grant program. This grant is available for all undergraduate students and is for all majors. The grant awards amounts up to $1200 per school year.
Alabama Student Assistance Grant Program: This is a newer grant program in the state that acts as a supplement to the Alabama Student Grant Program mentioned above. This is a grant program based on financial need. It is a combination state and federal grant that is available for undergraduate students who choose to study at eligible institutions in the state. Applicants are eligible to receive up to $2500 per school year. Awards are determined based upon information provided in the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.
Alabama Education Grant Program: This grant program in Alabama is suitable for students who are residents of Alabama who wish to attend a private not-for-profit educational institution. LGBT Policy Grants
There have been grants introduced in Alabama that are available to improve and change LBGT policies in the state. The grants range up to $100,000 and are designed to promote local and statewide LGBT equality. The funding for this grant is to be used to support policy changes for nondiscriminatory LGBT employment and accommodations statutes, as well as safe schools for LGBT students and parenting rights for LGBT parents.

There are numerous grants and scholarships available from the Central Alabama Community Foundation. Many of these grants and scholarships are awarded according to the specific county in Alabama from which the graduating senior is from (Central Alabama Community Foundation, 2010).
There are at least seven scholarships for students who live in Montgomery County, Alabama, awarded by the Central Alabama Community Foundation (Central Alabama Community Foundation, 2010). Additionally, there is one scholarship for students who live in Pike Country, Alabama, awarded by the Central Alabama Community Foundation (Central Alabama Community Foundation, 2010). And there is one scholarship for students who live in Lowndes County, Alabama, awarded by the Central Alabama Community Foundation (Central Alabama Community Foundation, 2010). And there are several scholarships for students who live in Elmore County, Alabama Central Alabama Community Foundation, 2010).
The Central Alabama Community Foundation (CACF) awards over $50,000 in scholarships each year to high school graduates from various counties in Alabama. The grant and scholarship applications can be found at the CACF website.
If you are a minority student in Alabama, then you can apply to CACF for the Earl P. Andrews, Jr. Memorial Scholarship that is available for seniors graduating from any Montgomery County high school which is an award anywhere from $500 to $1,000 depending on how good your essay about your career goals impresses the one who makes the decision about the award combined with your financial need. And you will also need a score of at least 23 on the ACT exam, a 3.5 or higher GPA; and you will need to submit your high school transcript. The application deadline is April 1st of each year for a September award (Central Alabama Community Foundation, 2010).
The Dorothy D. Cameron Scholarship Fund is available to graduating seniors from any Montgomery County High School through the Central Alabama Community Foundation (Central Alabama Community Foundation, 2010). Consideration is given to a student’s academic achievement, leadership qualities, participation in extracurricular activities, and student need. Two $5,000 scholarships are usually awarded each year (Central Alabama Community Foundation, 2010).
The other scholarships that are available to seniors graduating from any Montgomery County high school through the Central Alabama Community Foundation are: Jack L. Carr Scholarship (one $1,500 award amount annually); Jackson Family Phoenix Fund Scholarship (award amount varies); Kiwanis Club of Montgomery Scholarship (two $4,000 awards annually); Santee Family Fund Scholarship (award amount varies); Jay Murphy Scholarship (award ranges from $200 to $1,000 annually).
The state of Alabama provides grants to students attending approved independent colleges and universities, called the Alabama Student Grant Program (ASGP). ASGP offers grants for about $360 per year to full-time undergraduate students in Alabama and is based on Alabama residency rather than need. Check with the local office of financial aid at the applicable academic institution in Alabama.
In summary, private grants and scholarships in Alabama appear to generally offer a greater award amount than the Alabama Student Grant Program which is funded by the state of Alabama
