The College Affordability Grant offers New Mexico students who have financial need the possibility to get $1,000 per semester, up to 8 consecutive semesters. The student must maintain satisfactory academic progress at a public New Mexico university or college in order to get the grant. This grant is for undergraduate students enrolled at least half-time who are residents of New Mexico. To apply for Federal grants and school grants in New Mexico, you need to complete the FAFSA.
In order to get the New Mexico Student Incentive Grant, you must have financial need, and you need to attend one of the following colleges or universities in New Mexico: College of Santa Fe; St. John’s College; College of the Southwest; Crownpoint Institute of Technology; Dine College; or Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute. As a full-time student, you may be eligible to receive anywhere from $200 to $2,500 per year. If you are a part-time student, then you will get a pro-rated award amount. To be eligible for the New Mexico Student Incentive Grant, you must: 1) be a U.S. Citizen; 2) be a New Mexico Resident; 3) be an undergraduate student; 4) enroll at least half-time; and 5) exhibit financial need.
The Student Choice grant offers varying award amounts for undergraduate students in New Mexico attending one the following schools: 1) College of Santa Fe; 2) St. John’s College; 3) College of the Southwest. Students must show financial need, and they must be enrolled at least half-time to receive a grant.
Your tuition costs at an eligible academic institution in New Mexico can be paid for through the Legislative Lottery Scholarship (formerly known at the Lottery Success Scholarship). Funding begins in the second college semester, and eligibility is determined by the financial aid office of your college in New Mexico during your first college semester. Students can receive the scholarship for 8 consecutive semesters. You must have graduated from a New Mexico public high school and be a resident of New Mexico. Students must have a 2.5 GPA, and they must be enrolled full-time.
If you are a New Mexico student who shows academic merit, you can get a Platinum Scholarship for $20,000 from the Los Alamos National Laboratory Foundation. The American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) offers an AISES Google Scholarship for American Indians, Alaska Natives, and native Hawaiians who want to get a degree in computer science or computer engineering. The application deadline for this scholarship is June 15th of each year.
The American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) also offers the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Foundation Scholarship. This scholarship can be received for 4 academic years at an eligible academic institution in New Mexico. This scholarship is for American Indian undergraduate students pursuing degrees in business, engineering, math, medicine/health administration, natural/physical sciences, technology and education. The scholarship deadline is April 15th of each year.

New Mexico Student Incentive Grant
The primary education grant for postsecondary education in the state of New Mexico is the New Mexico Student Incentive Grant. This education grant is for resident undergraduate students who are attending or who have plans to attend a public postsecondary institution or a private not-for-profit institution in the state. Students who wish to apply for the New Mexico Student Incentive Grant must be able to demonstrate a financial need for the money.
Applicants who are approved for this grant can use the funds during their freshman year, sophomore year, junior year or senior year. This is a renewable grant. Applicants must be United States citizens and also residents of New Mexico State.
Pueblo De Cochiti Higher Education Grant Program
The Pueblo De Cochiti Higher Education Grant Program is open to eligible students who are studying for their degrees in colleges or universities in New Mexico. To be eligible for this education grant applicants must be one-quarter Cochiti blood and also be an enrolled or verified member of the Cochiti Tribe, according to the Tribal Council. This grant money can be used during the student’s freshman year, sophomore year, junior year or senior year.
Federal Pell Grant
The New Mexico Commission on Higher Education issues Federal Pell Grants to eligible candidates in the state of New Mexico. These are not new grants by any means but this grant is the largest federal grant and it is constantly being improved upon. It is awarded to undergraduate students and is based upon how much they financially need the help. How much money is awarded to a student is also based upon the cost of tuition, the expected family contribution and whether you attend school on a full-time or part-time basis.
