Corporate scholarships are huge business across the nation. The competition is fierce amongst companies to draw in the biggest and brightest talent. They do this by offering scholarships to the students that they feel are a good fit for their companies. By luring these up and coming career professionals they hope to bind these people to them right from the start of their higher educational pursuits. In most instances these scholarships are not offered to students at the bachelors’ degree level but instead to those at the Masters and/or PhD levels.
There is more than one manner in which these cunning businesses draw to them the best talent out there. One manner that this is done is by headhunting. Some companies set their sights on particular students in the same manner that they would attempt to lure an employee to their firm from a different company. What they do is make an offer that many students cannot refuse. They may offer a full comprehensive scholarship that will take care of all of the costs associated with an individual’s studies. The package may include full tuition for the duration of the student’s schooling. The downside to this is that the student is then obligated to work for this company following graduation for a number of years. The commitment is generally anywhere from five to ten years. It is unlikely that this type of scholarship will come with a get out clause.
The second way to qualify for this kind of financial aid is to go ahead and apply for the corporate scholarship yourself. These scholarships are often advertised throughout the school year and often come with minimum requirements such as a minimum GPA or a specific course of study. To be approved for this kind of corporate scholarship opportunities you need an advantage over all of the other applicants. In other words you need to stand out and be the brightest star in a dark sky!
The third way to apply for a corporate scholarship is not as common as the first two but it is still possible. Some students petition companies to provide them with financial assistance for their studies and in return offer to give them a time commitment for employment following graduation. For example, a mature student who already has an undergraduate degree and wants to go onto graduate studies might be bold and daring enough to do this. The student would have to plead their own case and highlight the skills that would help sway the company to looking closer at the student’s credentials, and education. It is important that you fulfill the necessary grade point average (GPA) requirement if you decide to take this route towards obtaining a scholarship.
